The Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team has advanced to the OCAA quarter-finals with a four-set win over the Fanshawe Falcons (25-27, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20) on Saturday night.
Barrie native Meagan McLellan led all scorers with 28 points (22 kills, five blocks, one ace), while Orangeville native Jackie Philpott had 10 digs in the crossover playoff game.
The Grizzlies travel to Humber College to play the Humber Hawks on Saturday at noon.
The men’s volleyball team’s season came to an end Saturday, as the team dropped a straight-set decision to Humber in its crossover playoff game in Toronto.
The Grizzlies hung tough in each set against the Hawks, but Georgian had no answer for the Hawks’ Paul Kemboi, who came through with some timely kills when his team needed them the most. Mike Hammond and Mike Adams provided the offence for Georgian.
Humber advances to the OCAA quarter-finals and will take on the Algonquin Thunder in Ottawa this weekend.

They say all records are made to be broken.
Barrie’s Meagan McLellan likely agrees. The fifth-year Georgian College student scored 15 points to help the Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 25-15, 25-22) win against the Cambrian Golden Shield yesterday afternoon in Sudbury. With that, she broke an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association record previously set by Nipissing’s Megan Stacey for most points in a season. McLellan, who recorded 16 points in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-15) win over the Boreal Vipers on Saturday night, needed four points yesterday to break Stacey’s total of 305 points, set in 2004-05.
With the wins, Georgian improves to 12-7 with one game remaining in the regular season. The Grizzlies play the Seneca Sting on Wednesday night, with the winner earning home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Still, they hold some magic for Meagan McLellan.
“It’s within reach,” the captain of the Georgian Grizzlies varsity women’s volleyball team said. “I hope I can get that record.”
Former Nipissing stalwart Megan Stacey holds the OCAA record for most points in a season with 308.
McLellan, a Barrie native, sits at 225.
Six games and 83 points is all that separates Meagan and Megan from sharing a page in the record books.
Eighty four points would give McLellan a page of her own.
“She will not be off that floor,” said Brad Graham, head coach of the Grizzlies, who open a final six-game regular- season stretch against the Durham Lords tommorow night at Georgian College. “She’s gonna finish it up.”
McLellan, who is in her fifth and final season with the Grizzlies, needs to average 14 points per game from here on out. If she can manage that — which she’s been able to do through the first 15 games of the season — she’ll finish with 309 points.
She’ll make history.
