Humber Captures Seneca Sting Men’s Volleyball Challenge

The Humber Hawks showed why they are the defending national champions. The Hawks stormed through the Seneca Sting Men’s Volleyball Challenge with a perfect 5-0 record, dropping just three sets along the way.

The Hawks added a five-set victory over Niagara and a three-set victory over Fanshawe to their two sweeps from the day before to complete pool play at 4-0.

In the final, Humber looked poised to chalk up another sweep, but the Redeemer Royals wouldn’t go quietly. The Royals led 21-13 in the third set before Humber stormed back to take a 24-23 lead. Redeemer used a block and two kills to put away the Hawks and force the fourth set.

Humber won the first, second and fourth sets by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-16.

Redeemer made it to the final by winning their first three matches over Limoilou, CMU and Seneca before dropping a five-set match to Sheridan. The Royals had to wait until the final pool-play match of the tournament to find out their fate. After Limoilou swept Sheridan, the Royals qualified for the finals by virtue of their four-set victory the previous day over Limoilou.

The OCAA Regular season gets underway on October 30 as the St. Clair Saints host the Fanshawe Falcons. The defending champion Hawks kick off their defence November 1 as they host the Conestoga Condors.
