ACTS Elites Athletes Graduate To Collegiate Level
After the ACTS Elites made a push to develop a sustainable boys program, the results are in after a seven year run that graduated the last of the boys from the OVA rep system.
Four players that spent time in the program have now received athletic scholarships at either a university (CIS) or college (CCAA).
Of the 20 players that passed through the program in the seven years, four have been recruited and are currently taking advantage of athletic scholarships.
Alex Inveiss is currently attending Guelph University at the Humber Campus and plays for the Humber Hawks – the first Ontario college team to win the Canadian College Championship in 28 years this past season in British Columbia.
Alex plays libero – a defensive specialist position – and was voted game MVP in the championship match.
At 6’11”, William Hoey has become the poster child for Canadian beach volleyball. William most recently represented Canada at the U19 World Beach Championships in Cypress.
He was a highly recruited player and accepted an offer at Queen’s University. He will suit up to play with the Golden Gaels, who won the OUA championship last March and finished fourth in the CIS.
Jason Grimm, a middle position player, will join the Georgian College Grizzlies in Barrie this year.
Markus Trence will take his skills to Queen’s University in the fall.
He led his high school to a spot in OFSAA competition at the ‘AAAA’ level, and was part of a duo that won gold three times on the beach in OVA tournament play this summer.
To cap the year, Markus was selected to the U18 Ontario indoor team and represented the province in July during tournament play in Gatineau, Quebec.
