Girard And Ballagh Commit to Nipissing

Eric Girard of Ottawa and Michael Ballagh of Teeswater have committed to attend Nipissing University in the fall, according to Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball head coach Eric Yung.

Girard, a 6-foot-3 left side hitter, played high school volleyball for College Catholique Franco-Ouest and club volleyball with the Ottawa Fusion.

He is majoring in English.

Ballagh, 6-foot-1, is a left side hitter enrolled in the bachelor of physical health an education program. He led his Madill Secondary School team to an OFSAA ‘AA’ antique bronze in 2010 and a bronze medal in 2011.

Nipissing has a great volleyball program, great residences and lots of one-on-one interaction with the professors,” said Girard. I am looking forward to going to school where my parents grew up.”

Yung said he was impressed with Girard’s ability during a training session over the Christmas break.

“Eric brings a fury of energy to the court and has great physical attributes for our level of play,” Yung said.

“I have had my eyes on Michael since the 2010 ‘AA’ OFSAA where he led his team to an antique bronze,” Yung said. “He is an extremely athletic left side that should stabilize our ball control as well as contributing to our potent offence.”

“I am hoping both Eric and Michael will make immediate impact on our program. They, along with a couple of returning left sides, will be competing to be in the starting six.”
