Perry in Transition at NORCECA

Ian Perry has always been a quick study, be it in academics or athletics.
On the hardwood, Perry made his name as a setter. Perry’s remarkable transition from setter to libero has been gradual. Perry made the switch to libero permanently this summer because he saw more of a long-term future at that position. At six feet, Perry is shorter than the prototypical setter at the university level. Height isn’t as big an issue for a libero…..
Perry was picked for the Junior National Team following his standout performance for Team BC at the National Challenge Cup in Toronto (NCCP) in late July. He’s remained in Ontario to train with his teammates in advance of the NORCECA Championships, which run Aug. 16-21 in Gatineau, Que. The top two teams at the NORCECA event, which brings together teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean, advance to the junior worlds next year.
Representing his country in international play is “a dream come true,” according to Perry.
“It’s definitely cool, getting to the next step,” he said.
