Central East Takes Gold

Region 4 Gold medalists Ontario Summer Games, Sudbury, 2010
Selected girls representing Ontario Volleyball Region 4, from cities and towns from Pickering to Trenton and north to Peterborough, won gold for 16U at the 2010 Ontario Summer Games, held in Sudbury, Aug. 10-13.
Six Ontario Volleyball Regions competed over three days to determine the medal standings.
Region 4 girls were undefeated going into the final gold medal match against Region 3, athletes representing South Western Ontario.
The first game victory went to Region 3, by the score of 25-21. The second game stayed close until Region 3 went ahead 23-17. Region 4 re-focused using great serves and defense to almost catch up, 23-20. With the score 24-21 and their backs to the wall, Region 4 dug very deep to tie the game 24-24. They finally won 28-26.
The third set saw Region 3 take the lead 8-4 but when the teams changed sides, great serves and outstanding defense once again turned the tide with Region 4 winning 15-11 and capturing the gold.
It was a great result for a team that practiced and trained so hard. Thanks also go to the dedicated coaches.
