Marshall Makes it Big

Standing just a shade under six feet, Allison Marshall is a huge net presence in any volleyball game she’s a part of.
“I love the net play; I just want to block every single shot,” says the avid volleyball player. “It’s part of that don’t let any ball hit the floor mentality.”
That mentality has stood her in good stead since the day she started playing the sport while a Grade 7 student at Orchard Park. This past year — her second at Park Street Collegiate Institute — she was named co-captain of the Trojans squad that defied the odds and went all the way to the provincial championships.
“We finished fifth at OFSSA, which was a pretty amazing feat; I think it’s the best a girls volleyball team from Park has done in recent history,” said Marshall, who will enter Grade 11 this fall.
But long before that, Marshall is hoping to make her presence felt at the Ontario Summer Games in Sudbury. The 15-year-old Orillian recently earned the right to play for the Region 5 Red Team in Sudbury.
Just making the team is quite a feat for a 15-year-old.
“There were about 140 people at the tryouts at Humber College in Toronto,” said Marshall, noting that Region 5 is comprised of a massive area from Toronto to Port Severn, including, of course, Toronto, Barrie, Collingwood and other cities big and small.
