Medals at AAU Jr Olympics

Canadian bronze and gold 14U medalists
Congratulations to Courtney Chiasson and Nareesa Nathoo for capturing a bronze medal at the 2010 American Amateur Union (AAU) Junior Olympics in Virginia Beach.
Pool Play began for the 14U team on Saturday July 31 and the team went undefeated against teams from Florida, Virginia and Illinois placing first in their pool. The weather was a scorching 38 Celsius with clear skies and bright sunshine. The picturesque beach behind the courts was a vision of paradise with clear blue Atlantic waters and perfect surfing waves alongside multi-coloured umbrellas shading over 5000 Virginia residents and tourists alike.
Playoff competition began early Sunday August 1 with overcast and slightly cooler temperatures. The team took on a motivated and determined Florida team. Chiasson and Nathoo were able to prevail winning 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals.
Semi final competition brought together the two sister Canadian teams playing against Nikita Bozinoski and Tiadora Miric. After a grueling back and forth game Chiasson and Nathoo were defeated 2-0, and moved on to the bronze medal match. With disappointment, Chiasson and Nathoo had to show true strength and character as they took on a hungry team from California. With fierce winds, pelting rains and temperatures hovering around the low 20’s the team was able to win the seesaw battle 2-0 capturing the bronze medal for Canada.
In the gold medal match Bozinoski and Miric easily defeated the team from Puerto Rico 2-0 capturing gold for Canada in the 14U division.
Congratulations also go to the 16U Canadian team of Nova Bozonski and Sydney Krimanich for capturing the gold medal in a final tough match against California winning 2-1.
Thank you, Josh Nichol and the OVA, for giving the girls and parents an opportunity they will remember for a lifetime.
