Beach Champs Crowned

Martin Reader of Comox, B.C., and Chaim Schalk of Red Deer, Alta., won the gold medal in men’s senior competition while Liz Maloney and Heather Bansley of Toronto were crowned the women’s champions on Sunday at the Canadian beach volleyball championships held at Ashbridges Bay, Toronto.

Canada’s Junior men upset Cuba last night 3-1, (22-25, 25-19, 25-7, 25-15), in the semi-finals at the NORCECA Junior Men’s Volleyball Championships in Gatineau Quebec.
Cuba faces Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match at 6 p.m. followed by the Canada-U.S., gold medal match at 8 p.m.
