Ottawa Fusion

When talks started last summer into merging the National Capitals Volleyball Club (NCVC) and the Ottawa Kangaroos Volleyball Club (OKVC), no one really knew what to expect. Following a late summer decision to proceed, tryouts came around very quickly and the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club was born.
In it’s first season, the OFVC fielded 13 teams. Seven girls’ teams and six boys’ teams took to the court in 58 OVA events to date. The 137 athletes took home 19 medals in various divisions of play and placed in the top 5 in over half of their tournaments.
Twenty-five dedicated volunteer coaches put the athletes through their paces. Two of our coaches – Cathy O’Doherty and Jonathan Alcombrack were recognized for their dedication to sports volunteerism with Celebration 2010 Awards.
Club co-Presidents Bob O’Doherty and Deb Price noted “We are really pleased with the progress of our new merged club, both on and off the court, during its first year of operations. A lot of hard work has gone into making the merger between the Ottawa Kangaroo and National Capital Volleyball Clubs successful, and we want to thank the leadership groups of both of these clubs for their tireless efforts in making the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club a reality.
We would also like to wish all of our players, coaches and teams the best of luck in their respective upcoming Provincial and National Championship tournaments. We are confident that this season’s achievements will lay the foundation for the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club to enjoy many more successes in the years ahead.”
As we head into Provincial and National Championships, we can look back on an inaugural season that has been, at times, challenging as can be expected when two separate entities become one. But, just as in nature where the most important fusion reaction is the one that powers the stars, this Fusion will continue to power Ottawa’s volleyball stars into the future.
