McLay and Team Top Rankings

Stratford’s Katie McLay is a member of the top-ranked 16U girls team in the Ontario Volleyball Association.

McLay and her 16U Kitchener-Waterloo Predators teammates earned the ranking after winning the Tier 1 McGregor Cup tournament at U of T, Scarborough Campus this past weekend.

The Predators defeated Durham Region Volleyball Club in the gold-medal match 25-20 and 25-14.

They went undefeated in match play throughout the tournament starting off the day by defeating Toronto West and DRVC. Advancing to the quarter-finals, they outmatched a determined Riverside Rage squad 25-12, 25-15.

The toughest match of the day came in the semifinals when the Predators faced the experienced third-ranked Durham Attack. McLay was key in the three-set match win of 19-25, 25-23, 15-11, delivering consistent attacks and leading the team defensively. She and her teammates served tough with both the floater and jump serves and then alertly adjusted to Durham’s quick offence. McLay’s season will also include upcoming tournaments in both Chicago and Kentucky where she will come up against some of the top 16U teams in the United States.

McLay, 16, is a member of the St. Michael high school senior girls volleyball team.
