DRVC Unexpected Reunion

An unexpected reunion took place over the holidays at the University of Toronto’s annual National Invitational Tournament on December 28-30, 2009.

The tournament included teams from UofT, Ryerson University, Brock University, University of New Brunswick, Dalhousie University and the University of Winnipeg. The tournament followed an unbalanced round robin format with Brock going undefeated at 3-0, U of T posting a 3-1 mark, UNB registering a 2-2 record, Winnipeg winding up at 1-3, with Dalhousie (0-2) and Ryerson (0-1) rounding out the standings.

This tournament also represented an opportunity for a number of players who had played on the DRVC 2008 18U Provincial Champions to reconnect.  Leah Saar (sophomore OH – Ryerson), Monica Jones (sophomore Libero – UNB), Emma Hunt (freshman OH – UNB), and Tori Stirling (freshman OH – Brock) all lined up for their respective teams at the NIT Tournament which was held at U of T’s Athletic Centre. In addition to the tournament participants, DRVC 2008 18U alumni – Celeste Bonter (sophomore OH – Iowa Western), and Brittany Brunt (sophomore Setter – Laurier) were also able to re-unite with their OVA team mates during a joint UNB/DRVC practice session held prior to the NIT tournament.

A little bit of time and a lot of miles have separated these girls since that 2008 Championship, but it was heartwarming to see the DRVC family together again, if only for a few days.
