Former Durham Attack and Team Ontario player and current freshman at the University of Maryland Baltimore, Ali Loynachan, was named to the “All Rookie Team” In the American East Division 1 conference last week.
In her first three tournaments, Loynachan won two tournament all-star berths and a rookie of the week award from the American East Conference. Unfortunately, she missed the next 7 weeks of the season due to illness. Despite the setback, Loynachan was the only freshman in the American East Conference to crack the top ten in hitting percentage finishing in eighth place.
The right side hitter finished tenth in the conference in blocking percentage as well. Loynachan, who missed seven games in the middle of the season to illness, leads the Retrievers in hitting percentage at .257 with 132 kills (2.13 kps). She has also added 69 digs, 36 total blocks and 14 aces.
Her coach, Ian Blanchard had this to say about her rookie team selection.
“She got off to a great start for us, but unfortunately suffered a setback with missing a lot of time for us,” Blanchard said. “I’m extremely proud of her for sticking with it and she significantly contributed for us down the stretch even though she wasn’t quite back to feeling 100 percent.”
