A pilot project enhancing the volleyball skills of London youth could soon be implemented throughout Canada.

Earlier this fall, Forest City Volleyball and Tim Hortons began Timbits Volleyball, a program that teaches fundamental skills for boys and girls in Grades 1-4.

“We are helping them develop the ABCs of sports…agility, balance and coordination,” says Dave Bellehumeur, a Tim Hortons franchisee who is also affiliated with Forest City Volleyball.

Dave has been used to running volleyball camps for and with a bit of tinkering, he knew that he could adapt it to six year-olds. “It works and it gives them a chance to have fun,” he says.

Timbits Volleyball began in late September and for nine weeks had them playing games with volleyballs.
“They are learning skills that are the basis for all sports,” Dave says. “We have a formula that works. We high-five them as much as we can, giving them positive feedback at every opportunity. The kids are loving it.”
