World Championship Draw for Women
Canada’s women’s volleyball team will face some tough competition in round robin play next year at the world championships as the draw for the tournament was held today in Tokyo.
Canada, ranked 23rd in the world, will compete in pool D with number-three China, number-four Russia, South Korea (12), Dominican Republic (14) and Turkey (20). A total of 24 countries were drawn across four pools for the final round of the 16th edition of the FIVB Women’s World Championships, which will be held in six venues across five Japanese cities (Tokyo, Nagoya, Hamamatsu, Matsumoto and Osaka) from October 29-November 14, 2010.
“It’s a tough group,” said Arnd Ludwig, the head coach of the women’s national team. “But it doesn’t change our goal. We want to make the top-four in our pool and advance to the next round. It’s the world championships and really there is no easy road through it.”
