For Toronto’s Birchmount Park Panthers, considered to be one of the strongest senior boys’ volleyball teams in the province for the past decade, the confidence has been there from the start of the season.
And their assurance was rewarded at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Quad-A championship Saturday night when they capped an undefeated season with gold.
Their perfect 39-match run this season helped bolster their 73-0 winning streak that has spanned the last two years. They finished with a three-game sweep of Waterloo’s Macdonald Highlanders with scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-18.
It took less than one hour for the Panthers to win their second consecutive provincial championship and this time in front of a crowded gym at Saunders Secondary.
