Buttressed by an imposing season record of 73-3-3, the Regiopolis-Notre Dame Panthers enter this weekend’s Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations triple-A boys volleyball championships as top banana — No. 1 seed.
A feather in the cap for the cats? Sure thing, but no more than that, cautioned their coach. Exiting as top banana is the trick.
“It’’s a nice accomplishment, a nice reflection on what we’e managed to do up to this point in the season,” noted Mark McKenna whose club rides a 52-match win streak into Stratford. “But it’s just a number.”
As recent evidence, he alluded to perennial contender Chatham-Kent. Last year’s top seed placed fourth.
McKenna made it clear the Panthers are on a gold-mining expedition. “We’re looking to win,” he said firmly.
