Syracuse Recruits Two Ontarians

Ontario's Samantha Clarey and Lindsay McCabe
The head coach at Syracuse University, Jing Pu, announced the signing of two student-athletes, Samantha Clarey (Baltimore, Ontario) and Lindsay McCabe (Georgetown, Ontario), who will join the Orange volleyball team in 2010.
Clarey is a 6′1″ middle blocker out of St. Mary’s High School in Cobourg, where she earned team MVP honors and was named senior female athlete of the year in 2009. Clarey led the Thunder to a 2008
OFSAA gold medal finish. She furthered her volleyball experience with the Northumberland Breakers Club,
Team Ontario and was a member of the Region 4 team at the Ontario Summer Games. Clarey is also a three-time Team Ontario MVP and two-time OVA Award of Excellence winner while leading her team to the Ontario Summer Games championship title in 2008.
McCabe is a versatile 6′1″ middle at Ontario’s Georgetown District High School where she led the team to Halton Secondary School Athletic Association championship. McCabe has furthered her experience with the
Georgetown Impact, while also joining Clarey on Team Ontario. McCabe is the Impact’s career leader in both kills and blocks and captained Team Ontario 17U in 2009. During her time with Team Ontario, McCabe was named a 2009 provincial championship all-star while earning the OVA Award of Excellence in 2007. McCabe also helped Team Ontario capture the bronze medal at the 2007 East Coast Volleyball Championships, a provincial silver medal and a 2008 Division II National silver medal.
The two recruits add to an already strong legacy of front-row talent out of Ontario in the Pu coaching era. Graduating seniors Kacie MacTavish (Sharon, Ontario) and Annabelle Pellerin (Frankford, Ontario) ranked third and fourth on the team, respectively, in kills in 2009 while rising senior middle blocker Hayley Todd (Whitby, Ontario) was second on the team in both kills and blocks.
