Canada loses opener NORCECA Championships
BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – Canada lost 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 to the Dominican Republic on Tuesday in its opening match at the eight-country women’s volleyball NORCECA (the North, Central and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) Championships.
Six of the eight teams at this tournament are headed to next year’s worlds in Japan including Canada.
Team captain Tammy Mahon of Holland, Man., led the Canadians with 15 points on 11 spikes, three blocks and one service ace. Tiffany Dodds of Lucky Lake, Sask., scored 11 points on 10 spikes and one block.
Larissa Cundy of Edmonton, Marisa Field of Kelowna, B.C., and Brittney Page of Vernon, B.C., also started all three sets with Dodds and Mahon.
Prisilla Rivera and Milagros Cabral topped the Dominican offense with 15 and 12 points respectively. The Canadians are ranked 23rd in the world at the Dominicans 14th.
