Gaels Star at Canada Games
Members of the Queen’s Volleyball teams have helped Team Ontario post a perfect record in the men’s and women’s indoor competitions at the Canada Summer Games.
Niko Rukavina, Dan Rosenbaum and Michael Amoroso played key roles in helping the Ontario men go 5-0 in pool play, losing only 2 sets in the process. In their final match against Quebec, with first place in Pool B on the line, Rukavina and Amoroso both had 6 kills while Rosenbaum led the team with 28 assists.
In the women’s competition, Lorna Button, Natalie Gray, Katie Matthews and Kristin Collins were integral in leading Ontario to a 4-0 record. In their final match, a five set thriller against B.C., Gray led Team Ontario with 14 kills while Matthews had 3, Collins had 7 assists, and Button had 10 digs.
With the first place finishes, both teams advance immediately to the semifinals. The men will face Manitoba at 3pm EST while the women will battle Alberta at 1pm EST. The medal matches are scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 and 8:30EST.
