2009 Canada Games Torch

Indoor volleyball action began Monday at MacLauchlan Arena in PEI with Team Ontario’s men having an easy time with Yukon their first opponent winning 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-8). Their second match against Saskatchewan went 3-1 with scores that show control of the match but with a lack of concentration in the third set (25-13, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14). They met with little challenge on their second day as they faced Nova Scotia winning handily 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17), and Newfoundland and Labrador 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-9). Team Ontario will playoff for first place in their pool today against Quebec. Both top teams remain undefeated.

Ontario’s women’s team were idle Monday but faced Nova Scotia yesterday. Nova Scotia was pumped coming off an earlier win Monday against Saskatchewan and hoped to quickly jump ahead with an early lead against the taller Ontario girls. Their strategy worked but only for the first game as Ontario regained their composure and won the match 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-19). The girls then faced a weaker Newfoundland and Labrador coming away victorious 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-16). Ontario is the only undefeated team in their pool as they face second place Saskatchewan today.
And. Indoor volleyball had an unexpected four and a half hours of TSN and RDS coverage when the women’s games of Manitoba vs. Quebec (3-2) and Saskatchewan vs. BC (3-1) ran longer than expected.
