Fabris lives the dream

Kristina Fabris made the Canadian national women’s volleyball team recently, and it has her burning up inside.

“I have always been a highly motivated person,” she said. “These opportunities only add to the fire and make me want to train that much harder and continue to strive to succeed at a higher level. I want to leave my mark and when I retire from this sport, I want to say I gave it my all and look back with no regrets.”

Fabris was a standout player for the Lo-Ellen Park Knights before embarking on a successful post-secondary career at the University of South Florida that included being named the school’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2008.

This past season, Fabris played pro volleyball in Pihtipudas, Finland, with the Pislaploki team.

“I was invited to participate in tryouts in previous years, but due to prior obligations with my university for the summer and injuries, I was unable to attend,” Fabris said. “This year, I had just completed my first season of playing professionally in Europe and received the invite to attend the selection camp.

“I knew this was an opportunity I could not turn down.”

Fabris is familiar with the aspects of training with a national level squad.
