ACTS Elite Initiates SPIKES
ACTS Elites Rep Volleyball Club offers opportunities for highly advanced volleyball players, youths ages 13 to 18 in the Caledon/Headwaters and surrounding areas to reach their dreams.
Another opportunity that ACTS Elites offers is SPIKES – Learning to Train, an exciting OVA initiative, which is aimed at providing youth, particularly 9 to 12 year olds with a supportive, non-competitive setting, where learning volleyball is cool. In the SPIKES program, both game play and environment are modified to ensure that every child is involved in each rally.
The players learn the basic skills of volleyball, such as forearm and overhead passing, hitting, serving and team movement while having a whole lot of fun.
Ontario Volleyball has modified the game of volleyball to make it more accessible and fun for youth 9 to 13. Playing three per side, everyone gets to touch the ball. The ball is softer, so it doesn’t hurt the arms, and the net is lower so that everyone experiences greater success. The drills and games are designed so that everyone has lots of fun and learns volleyball skills like never before. And, most important, they teach communication and sportsmanship, as the root of
being a good athlete.
SPIKES is running this spring from April 21 to June 23 at ACTS Family Fitness Tuesday evenings.
