Honouring Inspiration

Katie Cole comes from a long line of teachers, so it’s only fitting she became one.

Every day the physical education and English teacher inspires students at Arva’s Medway high school to be their best. She coaches the volleyball team and organizes student participation in the Run for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer research.

Cole was among 33 educators honoured early in March at the annual Bishop Townshend awards dinner, organized by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. The awards salute outstanding high school teachers in the Thames Valley District school board…

Born in London, Cole graduated from Lucas secondary school and went to the University of Western Ontario, where she played varsity volleyball. She now coaches the sport, as well as runs a special fitness class for students.

“I definitely love teaching English and phys-ed,” she said. “I don’t know what other job you can have where you can hit on all your interests every day.”
