A Feather in Their Cap

Shortly after being ousted from the playoffs, the solemn look on the faces of the Brock women’s volleyball squad were turned into smiles at the news of their head coach, and two players, being named to several Ontario University Athletics awards.

Coach Lucas Hodgson was named the 2008-09 OUA West Coach of the Year after leading the Badgers to a 14-5 overall record, and their first playoff appearance since 2002-03.

The 14 victories ties the school record for most conference victories in a single season. Hodgson and the Badgers have steadily improved over each volleyball season: 9-10 (2007-08) and 8-11 (2006-07).

“I’m more excited our girls did well. It shows the work they did this season, not what I did,” said Hodgson. “But just to be recognized on how hard the team has worked and all that they’ve done for me is amazing.”

The honour was two-fold for senior Shauna Peddle of Stoney Creek who was named a OUA West first team all-star for the second straight season, and became the first Brock player to receive an OUA Award of Merit….

Sophomore Shannon Anderson was named an OUA West second team all-star after having a strong first season with the Badgers. Anderson notched 191 points, 153 kills, 193 digs, 22 aces and 16 blocks in 60 games.
