Court Time for a Good Cause
Students at Nouvelle- Alliance high school took to the gymnasium earlier this month for a whole lot of volleyball, all in the name of goodwill.
Taking part in the school’s first Volley-Ball-A-Thon, students from grades 9 to 12 took to the court from 3 p. m. to 11 p. m. to raise money in order to sponsor a child in the Dominican Republic.
The event was organized by teacher Andree Ducharme and her Grade 12 students.
About 11 students participated in the event, representing more than one fifth of the total school population. Each of the students were required to raise a minimum of $20 for the cause. Grade 9 student Ashley Bechard and Grade 10 student Kayla Lawson raised the most money, $144 and $140, respectively, bringing the overall amount raised to $2,600.
Eleven teams played eight games throughout the night, with the ‘Ladybugs’ team winning the most games. Aidan Alize-Minty was the team captain. Winning the team spirit prize was the ‘Cows’ team, captained by Myriam Vigneault.
