Mavericks Tops and Hosts OFSAA

Serve-by-serve, point-bypoint, the Mayfield Mavericks delivered a gutsy performance to the volleyball court, and reigned champions of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association in Tier 1, for the fifth straight year. And for the second time in a row, the senior girls defeated the John Fraser Royal Jaguars. They captured three games to one over their Central Division rivals at Mayfield last week.
“It’s a great feeling,” said Mavs’ head coach Ken Jone, of his team’s consecutive championship streak. “Going in I knew John Fraser was going to be really stingy and tough defensively and they proved that.”
…Because Mayfield is hosting the AAAA senior girls’ volleyball OFSAA championship, they automatically play in the tournament, which meant John Fraser gained qualification as well. Today and Wednesday (March 10 and 11) the prestigious competition will take place, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first day and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. the second. The OFSAA championship game is expected to start around 6 p.m.
