Mountaineer of a Man

Zac Schulz is the tallest player on the Mohawk Mountaineers volleyball team, but he still has big shoes to fill.
The 6-foot-5 native of St. Catharines, an OCAA rookie setter, is following in the footsteps of Peter Sniuolis, one of Mohawk’s all-time great players.
Before his graduation last spring, Sniuolis was a perennial OCAA all-star setter at the Hamilton school — an All-Canadian to boot.
“It’s hard for a guy to come in after someone like Peter has gone through your program,” Mohawk coach James Bradley said following the Mountaineers’ 3-1 win over London’s Fanshawe Falcons.
“People expect you to be what he was. You’ve got to get your own identity. Separate yourself from the past.”
To ease the transition for Schulz, Bradley brought in Sniuolis this season to serve as an assistant coach and mentor with the defending national bronze medallists.
