Ludwig Named National Team Coach

Arnd Ludwig (Lupo) signed a four-year contract to become the new coach of the Canadian women’s volleyball national team.
Ludwig spent the previous six years coaching the German division I team Dresdner SC. Prior to that, he spent four years as an assistant for the German national team, which placed sixth at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
“I am very proud and honoured that Volleyball Canada has chosen me as the next head coach of the women’s national team,” commented Ludwig. “I am looking forward to working with Team Canada and the challenge to reach London 2012. I watched the team practice this summer and I think the women have the potential to reach this goal,” he continued. “It takes a lot of hard work, discipline and I will do my best to bring Canadian volleyball to the next level.”

“As the new face and technical leader of the women’s national team we believe Lupo’s past experiences and qualifications will help the team improve upon the on-court success it has recently experienced. The first task this coming summer is qualification for the 2010 World Championships, and work will begin immediately with the new head coach to put together the best program plan possible to ensure the team reaches this important benchmark,” stated John-Paul Cody-Cox, Executive Director of Volleyball Canada.
