Strong, Silent Type
The Niagara Catholic District School Board senior girls volleyball tournament Friday looked a lot like last year’s event.
The Holy Cross Raiders defeated the St. Mike’s Mustangs in the final for the second straight year — a 2-0 victory (25-11 and 25-14) — and 17- year-old Stacie Thomas repeated as the tournament MVP. She also won the MVP award in the NCDSB junior tourney making it three straight MVP awards.
The 6-foot-2 player, nicknamed Bear by her teammates, was her usual dominating self in leading the Raiders to victory.
“She’s very quiet and silent but she is very strong in all aspects of her game; blocking, hitting and serving. And her back-court passing is very good for her height,” Holy Cross coach Marc Ferrenti said.
She’s also a leader.
